What I will call the \u201cname\u201d (myogo \u540d\u53f7) has the same meaning as \u201cthe spoken name\u201d (shomyo \u79f0\u540d) and nembutsu.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First , nembutsu originally referred to a contemplative practice that involved reflection on the Buddha. The nembutsu of the White Lotus Society , which was founded by the Chinese monk Huineng , is said to have been a contemplative nembutsu based on the Sutra of Meditation on the Buddha of the Present. What is called the contemplative nembutsu involved achieving birth in the Pure Land after death through contemplation in one\u2019s mind of Amida\u2019s physical characteristics.
